Underwriter III - Motor

POSITION SUMMARY 

This position is involved in the review and appraisal of applications for insurance. Uses knowledge and independent judgment to determine eligibility of risks when compared to guidelines of programs available.  Interaction with Customers, Producers, Brokers, and others.   Participates in surveys and studies by department to produce production and loss analysis reports as required.   The aim is to minimize losses for the company and help to make a profit.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Underwrites New Business / individual health applications / process reporting forms; underwrites and reviews new/pending applications and initiates queries within the specified time frame. Ensures filing is kept current. Renewals and adjustments for Brokers without Binders, Producers and Customers.
2. Follow-up on pending applications
3. Underwrites Broker Binders and Agents Returns either weekly or monthly.
4. Processes Renewals for mail out six (6) weeks prior to expiry date
5. Monitors Brokers and Producer Portfolios and makes recommendations when necessary.
6. Prepares experiences reports for potential customers from various sources and prepares ad hoc reports on existing customers.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

• A-Levels
• Degree in Insurance or related area pertinent to the field of underwriting.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the underwriting field.
• Associated classes or courses and/or industry license, or designation.
• Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
