Position: Underwriter I
Department: Life Underwriting & New Business
Job Summary: Examines an applicant’s health status to determine the level of exposure the potential client presents based on company underwriting guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
- Underwrites applications for ordinary life, group life excess, contractual changes, reinstatements; ensuring that the Company’s underwriting Standards and Reinsurance Treaties are adhered to up to prescribed limit(s).
- Assesses standard and substandard risks on a basis which maintains the mortality rate that is consistent with Company’s objectives and competitiveness in the insurance marketplace.
- Interacts with agents to inform of status of applications and facilitate the sales process, clients as needed to make counter offers and HOLUATT member companies.
- Handles sensitive client information in a confidential manner
- Consults with the Chief Medical Officer on complex underwriting decisions on a weekly basis under the guidance of the Senior Underwriter.
- Updates and maintains New Medical Trends and Procedures as directed by Senior Underwriter.
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 O’Levels and 2 A’ Levels
- LOMA 280 LOMA 290
- Diploma in Business Management or related field would be an asset
Experience
- At least 1-2 years’ experience in Life Underwriting
- Customer Service Experience would be an asset
