Financial Accountant

SUMMARY OF JOB:
The Financial Accountant has primary day-to-day responsibility for managing the Cash & Bank, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Leases, and Taxation functions. This includes maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring adherence to Group policies and procedures, accounting standards, internal controls, and applicable tax laws and regulations. The role plays a critical part in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, financial reporting, financial analysis, and supporting informed business decision-making. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial systems, supporting internal and external audits, developing and implementing policies and procedures, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and providing guidance and support to team members as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately manage the accounting, tracking, journal entries, reconciliation, documentation and reporting of all leases held by the company, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and Group’s policies.
- Accurately manage the accounting, tracking, journal entries, reconciliations, documentation and reporting of the company’s fixed assets, ensuring accurate maintenance of fixed asset registers in accordance with applicable accounting standards and Group’s policies. This includes fixed assets count and economic useful life review.
- Preparation and maintenance of the general ledger including the trial balances, journal entries, reconciliations such as loans, investments, other receivables, prepayments, accruals, other payables, etc., accounting and documentation. Ensure that all financial data is recorded correctly and in accordance with applicable accounting principles, standards and the Group’s policies. Reconciliations include identifying discrepancies, resolving issues and recording adjustments relating to general ledger transactions.
- Review and manage the Company's cash and bank positions, ensuring funds are appropriately monitored and reconciled and escalating potential overdraft risks in a timely manner and that bank accounts do not enter overdraft positions.
- Prepare and manage monthly and quarterly financial reports, including intercompany reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and Group policies.
- Preparation of all aspects of the company’s taxation including accounting, reconciliation, documentation and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Ensure the timely completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including the preparation and review of supporting schedules and reconciliations.
- Maintain and support the integrity of financial systems, including account structures, financial dimensions, posting profiles, and related master data to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Provide necessary documentation, analyses, respond to inquiries and support during internal and external audits relating to the Cash & Bank, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Leases and Taxation. This includes uploading requests via the auditor’s portal/system.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance relating to Cash & Bank, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, and Leases, ensuring adherence to Ansa McAL Group Policies, IFRS, and internal controls.
- Analyze variances, prepare analytical reports/analyses and provide commentary based on the General Ledger, Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
- Monitor and evaluate internal controls within assigned accounting areas, recommend improvements to strengthen governance, compliance, and risk management, and provide financial insights and analysis to support management decision-making.
- Promote safety awareness and the development of a safety culture within the company.
- Ensure compliance with Ansa McAL Group Policies, accounting principles (IFRS) and internal controls.
- Assist in training, guiding, and reviewing the work of General Ledger team members to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuous development.
- Perform other related duties and provide support in the day-to-day operations of the Finance Unit as assigned by the General Ledger Accountant and Senior Accountant.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) CXC/CSEC passes, including Mathematics and English Language.
- Completion of ACCA Level 3 or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in General Ledger Accounting and Financial Reporting, with demonstrated responsibility for one or more of the following areas: Fixed Asset Accounting, Lease Accounting, Taxation, Cash & Bank Management, and Intercompany Accounting.
- Experience with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations and journal entries.Experience supporting internal and external audits.
