Claims Assistant I

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides claims department with support services such as preparing claim files for litigation and processing, negotiating, and settling claims.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provides prompt and quality Customer Service by projecting and demonstrating a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and initiative in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
- Distributes incoming claims to respective claims officers.
- Makes payments to providers and group companies.
- Negotiates settlement with insureds, third party and agents, i.e., communicating in writing or via telephone as soon as settlement figures are received.
- Prepares discharge forms, applies for police reports, updates blackboards.
- Ensures filing is up-to-date and dispatches 14-day letters.
- Liaises with adjuster/Broker/Investigator/repairer i.e., appointing adjuster/investigator immediately as claim is received. Follow- up for status after 48hours and convey status to agents/brokers.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 CXC Level passes, including Mathematics and English
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
EXPERIENCE
- 6 months – 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
